Summer 2017 - Belden School Is Ready for Visitors

The little one-room schoolhouse has been cleaned and spruced up after the long winter solstice. The bell is ready to be rung, the desks are ready for students of all ages, the slate boards have new chalk, the books are dusted and waiting for readers. The docents who will greet visitors are prepared to share information about Belden’s past, present and future.

A walk up Trail 2B to Belden School is well worth the trip. The building is authentically restored, the view of the valley is magnificent, and the brick patio offers a serene spot to contemplate the surrounding beauty. Belden School is not just an old building in the woods. It reminds us that we, as individuals and as a community, have an obligation and an opportunity to help preserve what has been left to us by those who lived before us. We don’t inherit the world from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children.
